Inset
Inset is apx. 45 minutes in length with a cast of three men and two women and is suitable for general audiences. It is a wonderful play about the death and resurrection of Jesus as seen through the eyes of two widows of Jerusalem and two of their friends. Small choral pieces tell of the events leading up to the death of Jesus. The main action is on the porch of an inn run by the two widows. One had been healed by Christ in the Temple, but now lets her fears of retribution from the priests keep her from worshiping Jesus in public, or even in private. She denies Who He is in her fear. His death frees her from her fears and after the death of the Lord when a priest comes to see her, she finally refuses to give in once more to her fears and states outright that she will deny Him no longer. The priest says that he, too, can no longer deny the truth of Jesus and is searching for his own forgiveness. then together they hear the news that the tomb is empty – and at last the widow’s voice is lifted in praise.
